What To Do if You Don’t Know What You Want To Do.

by Nancy on January 17, 2012

I spent a good chunk of my 20′s not knowing what I wanted to do with my life.

The feeling can be tortuous and frustrating.

It can also feel isolating because it feels like something’s wrong with you or at least most everyone else is all figured out.

Take heart. You’re not alone.

It’s a big question. And one I know, with all my heart, that you are able to answer.

Here are the distilled steps that have made a difference for me. They turned pain into adventure, confusion into “hell yes.”

And really, this question is your life’s adventure. An adventure that will morph, shift, change directions and take you on one wild, thrilling ride. All you need to do is jump.

steps

1) I say, above all, practice self-compassion.

2) Then, practice the art of exploration.

3) Then, follow the breadcrumbs of your joy.

love + direction

I’d give the same advice for someone looking for love.

And, really, finding your path in life is a form of finding the love of your life.

If you want someone to love you, love yourself first.

If you want to find that special someone, do things that make you happy. Participate 100% in your life and explore what gives you joy. That’s where and when that person will find you.

life

Sometimes we makes things harder than they need to be.

Let life be wonderously simple.

step one

If you’re wondering what to do with your one amazing life, start by loving who are you to the depths of your being. Body, mind and soul.

This process may be take a long time. That’s ok. In fact, it’s the best time investment you will ever make.

step two

As soon as possible, start doing what delights you.

Often.

Start doing what scares you.

Frequently.

Just start doing.

step three

Then, follow the trail that your delight has set for you.

It will be there.

Promise.

and remember

Listen to synchronicities.

Honor what comes easily for you.

Don’t overlook failures. They can light the way with their wisdom.

Pay attention to whatever keeps you so excited you can’t get to sleep at night.

I believe in you.
