2 Powerful Questions to Jumpstart Your Future
One of my favorite things to do in life, and I recognize it as a way I can be of service to others, is instigating dreams and unraveling potentiality.
Here are two of my most powerful questions for excavating your purpose + dreams:
1) What would your ideal scenario look like on a Wednesday, 5 years from now, from 2-5pm in the afternoon?
It’s easier to see the “I could see myself maybe doing that” from the “YES, that is what I want to do.” Most of us, especially as creatives, could probably see a number of possibilities for “the future”. And it gets hard to determine which one would work best in the long run.
But it’s the specific that gets us to the root. If you’ve ever had a crappy/hated job, you know that it’s exactly that spot – Wednesday from 2-5pm in the afternoon – that can feel the most unbearable.
But if you’re where you were meant to be? Wednesday at 2:15pm will be feeling juicy.
The second question:
#2 How can you be of most service to the world?
I heard once that Deepak Chopra continually asked his children this question when they were growing up. He said not to worry about money, success, etc… when picking a career, but to seek where they could be of most service to the world.
And everyone has a way they can most be of service to the world. What’s yours?
And don’t discount the seemingly “small” ways of service. Being a great parent is a massive service, as is doing what you love on a small level in your community. Don’t sabatoge your ways of service by thinking you have to go big or go home.
But don’t play small either. That definitely doesn’t serve the world if you feel called to something bigger.
Though you may be temped to skim through these questions and vow to think about them at a later time, do yourself a favor, get out a pen and some paper, and really answer the questions. It’ll pay off.
